End of arbitrary arrest by income tax officers? New Income Tax Bill 2025 proposes to decriminalise Section 276CCC

Income Tax Bill, 2025: The new tax Bill has proposed to decriminalise Section 276CCC of the Income Tax Act, 1961. This Section (276CCC) is now mentioned under clause 480 of the Income Tax Bill, 2025. Under clause 480 now tax officers need to take approval of higher authorities before initiating prosecution under clause 480 (Section 276CCC).
